If your 401(k) account had both pre-tax and after-tax (or Roth) contributions, you’ll likely receive two checks for your rollover. This is necessary so the pre-tax and Roth balances can be deposited into separate Traditional and Roth IRA accounts in order to avoid a taxable event!

You can send both checks in your prepaid envelope to your IRA provider! There should be an instruction sheet enclosed that lets your IRA provider know which check to deposit into each IRA account.
